Roman Forum, Santa Maria Antiqua

This is a 5th Century Church, that partially collapsed in about 847 - likely in an earthquake, was filled in with debri, and not discovered again until about 1901.  Great pains were taken to stabilize, protect and preserve the site and it's amazingly preserved 5th Century Frescos.  It opened to the public in 2012.
