Getting to Italy
I flew on Frequent Flyer Miles, using as few as possible, so my connections were a little funky, DCA to Detroit, Detroit to Philly, Philly to Rome, for 60,000 miles and less than $70 is taxes and fees I say THANK YOU Very Much American Airlines. Because I had a couple of long layovers to be followed by a 9+ hour overnight flight, I splurged an spent $50 to buy a day pass to the Admirals Club lounges. The one at National has a nice view, bagels and coffee were out, they don't have a club in Detroit, the one on the A Concourse in Philly near the international gates is huge and comfy, I may have napped for a few minutes.
