Look for the Light

Nikon D5500, 18-200 DX VR, @150mm, ISO 2800, f/5.6 @ 1/125
Over the years, I have done very little with artificial light.  One of the first things I do when I start using a camera is figure out how to turn off the built in flash - same with my phone.  And yet, the essence of photography is the interaction of light and shadow.  I look for the natural light. Maybe someday I will do some serious studio work, but out in the real world, I almost never turn on the flash, or manipulate the light.  I find an image like the one above, by looking for the light.
