Art entertains by evoking feeling, meaning, or emotion. Art can be beauty, or ugly, it is art if it brings about understanding and a reaction from the person experiencing it. The message is what counts, not the medium. The tools we use to capture images are the medium, for a good part of my journey as a photographer I focussed on the medium. Did I have the right gear, the best process, was the lighting right, was the print clear. Today I realize that the message is really what it is all about. Sometimes that means the perfect image of beauty, sometimes it is the imperfect image that makes the viewer think, feel, react or respond.
