Mind Shattering Technology
This was in an email this week, "Sony a9 III: World’s first full-frame mirrorless camera with global shutter
Sony has delivered the world’s first mirrorless camera with a full-frame global shutter sensor: the a9 III. This revolutionary release promises unrivaled speed thanks to the capabilities of the newly designed 24.6MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor, including 120 fps continuous shooting with AF/AE, flash sync at all speeds up to 1/80,000 sec., and no subject distortion."
My mind is shattered by 1/80,000 of a second shutter speed. My first SLR about 50 years ago, had a cloth focal plane shutter with a maximum of 1/1000th, replaced a couple of years later with a top of the line Canon F-1 with a metal focal plane shutter at 1/2,000 of a second. The 1/2,000 was considered action freezing, though at times it clearly was not fast enough. This new camera is 4,000 times faster, with flash sync at all speeds.
There are rare conditions where 1/80,000th would be used, but to be able to do so is amazing. High ISO, lots of light, fast moving action, I can see the time when it could be used. And 120 frames per second, this is the science fiction of 50 years ago.
