The Character of the Light

Photography is capturing the light that is reflected off of the subject, and the character of the light makes or breaks the image.  I remember my the first trip to Italy, about 24 years ago in February, (the Euro was new and merchants were still struggling with the change.) The thing that struck me in Rome and Florence was the warmth of the light.

Some images, such as an urban street scene, or modern building are best in cold light.  Warm stone, brick, and colors are often best in warm light.

The image above was taken in Provence in May, in the warm light of the Mediterranean.   I love that light.
